In 1997, the Group capitalized on an opportunity to acquire an optical communication products company that had created substantial investment return for the Group. At the same time it allowed SMC to accumulate substantive know-how and experience in the manufacturing of optics and imaging products which represents an important value addition to the electro-optics specialization among the Group's EMS service offering today.

With its specialized technical competence and precision manufacturing experience, coupled with the strong industrial and financial base of the Group, the EMS division is fully proficient to compete effectively for contracts from major brands in the world.

Operated under SMC Multi-Media Products Co. Ltd., the EMS division currently produces laser scanner head modules and fuser modules used for laser printers, optical lens for CD, DVD players and cameras, laser levelers, high performance diodes and rectifiers, and household security systems.
